Summary Description:

The Engineering Division of the Public Works Department is seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual who can approach challenges with confidence and professionalism. Ideal candidates will have a strong background in utilities, land development, engineering design, and/or construction, along with experience in reviewing and overseeing all aspects of civil engineering disciplines.

  • Strong organizational, research, and analytical skills
  • Ability to identify alternative solutions, consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations in support of established goals
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple deadlines, priorities, and concurrent projects with frequent interruptions
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and/or GIS systems and Bluebeam
  • A valid class C California driver’s license

Education

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in civil engineering, structural engineering, or a related field. 

Experience

Engineering Assistant – Previous experience performing responsible, paraprofessional engineering work. 

Engineering Associate – Two years of professional-level engineering experience in design and or construction work. A valid (or is a candidate to receive) certificate as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) issued by the State of California; an additional two years of professional-level engineering experience may be substituted for the EIT certificate. 

Associate Engineer – Three years or more of responsible professional engineering experience, including experience in municipal public works, traffic or building design and construction activities. A valid certificate of California registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.
