Summary Description:
The County of Ventura is seeking to fill vacancies for four (4) Regular Engineering Manager positions and one (1) Regular Senior Engineering Manager positions. The position will be filled based on the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience.
The engineering manager manages a major section of an engineering department or is responsible for major engineering or surveying program(s) or projects; assists in the planning, organizing, directing and coordinating of the varied activities within a division or section within Public Works Agency; and performs related duties as required. The departments of the four vacancies for Regular Engineering Manager are:
- Water and Sanitation: Planning & Permits
- Water and Sanitation – Projects
- Watershed Protection – Projects
- Watershed Protection – Design & Construction

The Senior Engineering Manager (SR EM), under general direction, plans, organizes, integrates and directs the activities and work of a major engineering division within the Public Works Agency or has significant engineering responsibilities, which include supervising a broad range of employees; represents the Agency in matters relating to divisional responsibilities; and performs related duties as assigned. The department of the one vacancy for Regular Senior Engineering Manager is:
- Watershed Protection – Design & Construction

Key Qualifications:
Engineering Manager: Considerable experience related to the specific program assignment which has led to the acquisition of the required knowledge, skills and abilities. The required knowledge, skills, and abilities are typically obtained by completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering AND a minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible professional civil engineering experience including at least one (1) year of experience as a team leader of engineering and technical staff or at least one (1) year of public works project management experience.
Senior Engineering Manager: Progressively responsible experience related to the specific program assignment which has led to the acquisition of the required knowledge, skills and abilities. The required knowledge, skills and abilities are typically obtained by completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and two (2) years managing an engineering or surveying section at a level equivalent to an Engineering Manager.

Associate Engineer
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering, transportation engineering, or related field.
- Experience: Three years increasingly responsible professional engineering experience including two years of experience comparable to an Assistant Engineer II with the City of Camarillo.
- License or Certificate: Possession of an Engineer-In-Training certificate issued by the State of California. An additional two years of professional engineering experience may be substituted for the Engineer-In-Training certificate.
Associate Civil Engineer
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering, transportation engineering, or related field.
- Experience: Three years increasingly responsible professional engineering experience including two years of experience comparable to an Assistant Engineer II with the City of Camarillo.
- License or Certificate: Possession of a State of California Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer.
Senior Civil Engineer
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering, transportation engineering, or related field.
- Experience: Five years of increasingly responsible professional engineering experience including one year of administrative and/or lead supervisory experience.
- License or Certificate: Possession of a State of California Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer.
