Salary Range (DOQ):

  • $82,908.18 – $132,328.77 Annually

Description:

Under the general supervision of the Electrical/Instrumentation Supervisor, an Electrical/Instrumentation Technician I, II performs a variety of skilled electrical work related to the installation, maintenance, and repair of industrial low and high voltage electrical motors, motor controls, and related electrical equipment and skilled instrumentation work related to the installation, maintenance, calibration, and repair of electrical, electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical instruments used for measurement and control of water and wastewater distribution and treatment processes. 

This is a flexibly staffed series and employees typically enter as an Electrical/Instrumentation Technician I.   An Electrical/Instrumentation Technician I exercises less independent judgment and discretion and has a narrower scope of responsibility. Level I employees are promoted to level II when both District competency assessment standards are met and required certification is obtained. The Electrical/Instrumentation Technician II is the fully experienced, journey level class. 

Summary Ideal Candidate Qualifications: 

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Experience in asphalt and concrete repair, along with general construction knowledge.
  • Knowledge of equipment such as backhoes, skid steers, and related tools.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt well to changing conditions, especially in traffic control.
  • Follow oral and written instructions accurately and efficiently.
  • Ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting, shoveling, and other labor-intensive tasks.
  • Ability to obtain a Class A CDL within probationary period.
  • Ability to work in inclement weather and respond to after-hours, standby, and emergency callouts.
  • Dependable, strong work ethic, and a positive, team-oriented attitude.

Training And Experience Guidelines

Any combination of training and experience, which demonstrates attainment of the required knowledge and ability to perform the required work (with reasonable accommodation, if needed), typically:

EDUCATION: 
High School Graduation or equivalent is required.  College level classes in electrical and / or electronics and process control technology may substitute for work experience.  Successful completion of a recognized electrical or instrumentation apprenticeship is desirable.

EXPERIENCE: 

Electrical/Instrumentation I – Two (2) years of experience performing skilled electrical and/or instrumentation work. 

Electrical/Instrumentation II – Four (4) years of experience performing skilled high and low voltage electrical and/or instrumentation work in a water/wastewater facility or an industrial setting.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS: 

A valid California class C driver’s license must be maintained at all times.

Electrical/Instrumentation Technician I: A California Water Environment Association (CWEA) Grade I Electrical/Instrumentation Technician Certification is required within 12 months of employment.

Electrical/Instrumentation Technician II: A CWEA Grade II Electrical/Instrumentation Technician Certification is required. 

DESIRED CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS: 

One or more of the following certifications are highly desirable:

CWEA Grade I, II, III or 4 Electrical/Instrumentation Technician Certification

State of California Grade III Water Distribution Certification

State of California Grade III Water Treatment Certification

State of California Grade III Wastewater Treatment Certification

California State Department of Industrial Relations Electrician Certification.
