Description:

Great career opportunity to join a high quality municipal Public Works Department in the City of Thousand Oaks!

The City is seeking a knowledgeable and results oriented Landscape Maintenance Supervisor who will effectively lead a team of maintenance crew members and equipment operators in the administration of the City’s landscape and maintenance programs. 

Examples of Duties

Primary responsibilities:

  • Oversee operations of City landscape construction and maintenance programs; identify ways to conserve resources and promote environmental sustainability
  • Manage and supervise work crews; review work orders for completion according to performance quality, productivity and safety guidelines
  • Plan, organize, direct, and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; regularly monitor performance and provide coaching for performance improvement and development
  • Create and distribute reports to departments and other agencies
  • Develop biannual operations budgets for both General Fund and Landscape Assessment Districts; ensure that expenditures are within appropriate parameters
  • Prepare and/or edit landscape and irrigation construction plans, work plans, standard operating procedures, and maintenance calendars
  • Develop Scopes of Work and site maps for service agreements and task orders
  • Document and report costs for both in-house maintenance operations and contracted services
  • Attend after-hours City Council, Planning Commission, and public outreach meetings on as-needed basis  

This position requires working after hours emergency and on call duties as necessary.

Typical Qualifications

Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate should possess:

  • 6 or more years of increasingly responsible landscape maintenance experience, including 1 year of lead supervisory responsibility
  • High school diploma supplemented by college level course work in landscape architecture, horticulture, forestry or related field
  • Ability to effectively motivate and lead others; be a team player
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, and make effective, timely and informed decisions
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with different stakeholders such as residents
  • State of California Department of Pesticide Regulations Qualified Applicator Certificate Categories B & C
  • International Society of Arboriculture Certification
  • A valid Class C California driver’s license
