Salary Range (DOQ):

  • $46.94 – $60.27 Hourly DOQ

Description:

Under direction, supervises, assigns, reviews and participates in the work of staff responsible for performing professional and technical engineering services; ensures work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures; and performs the more technical and complex tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility. This is a broad classification with individual positions assigned to specific functional areas; duties and assignments may overlap depending on the operational needs of the department and staffing levels.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Manage complex water infrastructure projects from design through construction, ensuring compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Apply advanced civil engineering principles to prepare, review, and refine plans, specifications, cost estimates, and technical calculations.
  • Exercise sound engineering judgment when evaluating alternatives, resolving field issues, and making recommendations that support project goals.
  • Mentor technical staff by assigning work, reviewing performance, and providing training and guidance.
  • Interpret and apply waterworks codes and standards including municipal regulations, construction requirements, and environmental guidelines.
  • Conduct field inspections to verify construction quality, resolve discrepancies, and ensure adherence to approved plans.
  • Prepare clear technical reports, staff recommendations, and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with contractors, consultants, and agencies to review proposals, monitor work activities, and maintain project alignment.
  • Analyze engineering problems, identify solutions, and communicate impacts and recommendations effectively.
  • Review and evaluate engineering and architectural plans including calculations, material specifications, and geotechnical reports.
  • Utilize engineering software tools for design, modeling, drafting, and data analysis.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with the public, developers, contractors, and City staff.
  • Work independently while managing multiple priorities and meeting established deadlines.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education/Training:

  • Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in engineering, architecture, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Three years of increasingly responsible engineering experience, preferably with a public agency or two years as an Assistant Engineer with the City of Simi Valley.

License or Certificate:

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver’s license.
  • Possession of an Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate
